Why Trek With Us?
Experience:
We have been leading trekking expeditions around the world for the past 20 years in some of the most beautiful and remote trekking locations. Over that lengthy time we have honed our skills, logistics, technologies and adapted to maintain our mantra of providing quality, safe and successful expeditions. In PNG we have a wealth of experience trekking the Kapa Kapa Trail and the Kokoda Track and have a passion for providing a valuable and rewarding trekking experience for our clients and each of the villages we pass through.
Quality:
We look to provide high quality at every leg of the journey, and work hard to improve every expedition. Be it experienced guides, veteran local support staff, menu plans, trekker-to-guide ratios, we review every detail with great care and put enormous attention to preparing a successful and fantastic trekking experience for our clients.
Team Philosophy and Safety:
In demanding terrain such as the PNG jungle, we always try to err on the conservative side when making decisions. The foundation of our goal - to be as safe as possible - is based on our team philosophy, whereby our group of trekkers, guides and local support staff work together to make decisions and minimise risk for trekkers. When in a difficult predicament in the jungle, the support of the whole team can turn problems into manageable solutions.
Professional trekking guides:
With Kapa Kapa Trail Expeditions, you will be led by professional guides. Our guides are experienced PNG veterans. Combined with our local support staff, this provides you with the highest level of safety and support.
PNG support staff:
We employ a dedicated team of local escorts/guides and carriers to ensure the smoothest movement of our expedition team. We pay our local support staff well above the rates typical on the Kokoda Track. They are also great friends and comrades.
Group size:
We only take private expeditions of 1-6 people on this expedition.
Meals on the expedition:
We prepare your meals in every camp and throughout the entire trip. We provide the highest quality expedition food available and supplement this with fresh local produce wherever possible.
Medical facilities:
We carry an extensive expedition medical kit and have access by satellite telephone 24/7 to our designated team doctor. Our guides are Wilderness First Aid qualified.
Communications:
We carry a satellite telephone enabling you to send emails, SMS and make phone calls to family, friends and for your business. We also have an extensive recharging facility for your personal electronic devices.
Experience required for expedition members:
We are looking for experienced trekkers, for whom the Kapa Kapa Trail is the next step in their trekking careers. Our team will be in top physical condition and ready to meet the challenges the Kapa Kapa Trail presents. It is important that your previous trekking experience includes previous jungle trekking and steep trekking terrain. The Kokoda Track is an excellent prerequisite to undertaking the Kapa Kapa Trail. It is important that a team member be able to work well with others and be willing to commit to a group effort over the two weeks. This team effort makes for a more enjoyable trek. You will be exposed to a completely different culture during the expedition, and as a member it is your responsibility to treat the people and their environment with respect. This ability is as important as your trekking skills.
Cyber Updates:
Kapa Kapa Trail Expeditions ensures family, friends, and the general public can follow the team on its trek along the Kapa Kapa Trail through daily updates of our blog on the expedition website, in addition to the use of a Delorme Inreach which provides for a real-time understanding of the teams location at any given time.
Gear Advice:
Kapa Kapa Trail Expeditions can provide full gear recommendations to assist with your trekking questions and preparations.
Re-cap:
There are many reasons to choose a particular guide service, but there are five main areas of concern that you should look at carefully:
1. Safety Philosophy
2. Guides (Professional Trekking Guides and skilled local staff)
3. Logistics in-country
4. Pre-Trip Planning
5. Successful Trekking Outcomes
In all five categories, Kapa Kapa Trail Expeditions strives to achieve the highest outcome achievable.
